Mountain meru is the fifth highest mountain in Africa that offer a stunning view of Kilimanjaro at the north east climb mountain meru means ability to concur almost 4600m above all it offer the high possibility of spot many wild animals like warthogs ,buffalo ,Thomson, elephant ,giraffe ,and different monkey species and possibilities of spotting some carnivore like leopard, and cheetah climbing meru is a little bit tough during the summit compare to Kilimanjaro due to ford character above the 3500m but its a good preparation for mountain Kilimanjaro a best time to climb meru is June up to august and December up to march

Activities

 

Arrival and Orientation

Arrival: Kilimanjaro International Airport meet the guide for orientation and next day briefing agreeing up on the time and  gear checking

Overnight stay: Keys hotel

Day 1: Keys hotel to Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

Elevation Gain: 920m/3,020ft
Activities:
Morning transfer to Arusha National Park
Register and meet with guide and ranger
Trek through grasslands and acacia forest
Break at Maio Falls after about 2 hours
Pass through the 'fig tree arch'
Continue trekking for approximately 4-5 hours to reach a viewpoint, then proceed to Miriakamba Hut
Overnight Stay: Miriakamba Hut

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

Elevation Gain: 1,050m/3,450ft
Activities:
Trek along a steep path to “Mgongo wa Tembo” (elephant back) in about 2 hours
Experience the misty rainforest scenery
Proceed to Saddle Hut
Vegetation transitions from rainforest to heather and moorland
Optional: Hike to Little Meru (3,820m) for acclimatization and views, approximately 1½ hours
Return to Saddle Hut for a warm meal and early night
Overnight Stay: Saddle Hut

Day 3: Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak, then descending to Miriakamba Hut

Elevation Gain: 1,012m/3,318ft
Elevation Loss: 2,062m/6,768ft
Activities:
Midnight wake-up for the final ascent
Follow the trail with headlamps through bush to Rhino Point (3,821m)
Encounter some scrambling on the challenging path
Follow the crater rim on frozen volcanic ash and rocks to the summit (4-5 hours)
Enjoy sunrise views behind Kilimanjaro and into Mount Meru’s crater
Descend via the same route to Saddle Hut for rest with hot soup and tea
Continue descent to Miriakamba Hut
Challenges: Some scrambling, requires good head for heights and sure-footedness
Overnight Stay: Miriakamba Hut

Day 4: Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate

Elevation Loss: 920m/3,020ft
Activities:
Breakfast and final stretch via northern route
Possible sightings of giraffes, buffalo, elephants, and black and white Colobus monkeys
Arrive at Momella Gate
Farewell to the hiking crew
Transfer back to accommodation
